In 2006-2010, onion sales in the world increased by 13%: from 60 million tons to 68 million tons. The largest increase in sales compared to the previous year was observed in 2007 - almost 9%. BusinesStat estimates that in 2011-2015, sales of onion in the world will grow by an average of almost 3% per year. By 2015, world onion sales will reach 77.4 million tons. In 2010, almost every fourth purchase of onions in the world was made in China (19.3 million tons). In India, almost 17% of all onions in the world were sold, and in the USA - 5%.
In 2006-2010, world onion sales per capita in the world increased by 7.3%: from 9.3 to 9.9 kg per year. In 2010, the sales of onion per capita among the countries of the world were in the lead of New Zealand (112 kg per year), Malaysia (33 kg per year) and Turkey (26 kg per year).
