Description

In 2016, the volume of world imports of tea almost coincided with the level of 2012 and amounted to 1.82 million tons. The increase in imports of tea in the world was noted in 2013 and 2016, in 2014-2015 there was a decline. One of the reasons for this decline was the drop in supplies from the largest tea-exporting country, Kenya, where in late 2014 - early 2015 a drought occurred, which affected tea plantations.

The main tea importers in the world in 2016 were Pakistan, Russia and the United Kingdom. In 2016, the share of Pakistan in world tea imports was 9.9%, Russia - 9.6%, Great Britain - 7.4%. It is also necessary to note the significant volumes of tea imported into such countries as the USA (7.3% of the world import volume), the United Arab Emirates (6.3%), Germany (3.2%) and Poland (1.9%). At the end of 2016, these countries accounted for 45.6% of the total world tea imports.

In 2013, the price of tea imports showed an increase, in 2014-2015 - a decline. According to experts, the decline in prices in 2014-2015 affected only a segment of granulated teas, while prices for traditional teas continued to rise. In 2016, the average price of tea imports resumed growth, amounting to 0.1% compared to 2015.

In the coming years, experts predict the preservation of the upward price trend. The driver of growth in world prices for tea will be an improvement in the well-being of the population of the countries of Southeast Asia, South and Central America, and therefore the demand for tea will grow.

According to BusinesStat, in 2017-2021, the growth of the actual volume of imports is expected at 1.7-0.7% per year. In 2021, the value of the indicator will reach 1.92 million tons, which will exceed the level of 2016 by 5.5%.
