According to BusinesStat, in 2012-2016, global starch sales increased by 15.2%: from 28.2 to 32.5 million tons. An annual increase was observed in relation to previous years. The largest increase was recorded in 2014 - by 3.8% compared to 2013. In recent years, the demand for starch in the food industry has actively increased, primarily due to the expansion of its use in the bakery industry, where its use reduces the cost of baked goods , as well as in the production of very popular frozen food.
In 2012-2016, China, USA, Indonesia and Thailand were the leaders in starch sales in the world. During the period under review, China’s share in world sales averaged 32.9%, the US share was about 9.2%, Indonesia’s share was 8.3%, and Thailand’s share was 7.8%. It is expected that China’s share in starch sales will increase, and in 2021 it will be 33.7%. It should be noted that the listed countries are among the five major producers of starch. Thus, for the period studied, the cumulative share of these countries in world production averaged 60.6%.
In 2017-2021, sales of starch in the world will continue to grow at an average of 3.8% per year. In 2021 they will reach 39.3 million tons, which will exceed the value of 2016 by 20.6%.
